My first month in finance recruitment: Inci Evcil
Inci joined our Sheffield transactional and part-qualified finance team at the start of April. She talks about her first month with the business, how she’s found changing industries after six years in the same one, and how she wants to leave her mark on the Sheffield finance market.
Heading into 2024, I knew I wanted a new focus within my career. I’d spent six years with Chase Medical recruiting into the medical sector, and I was ready for a new challenge. So, obviously, I picked something I knew very little about! Finance had always been a draw; it’s a consistent sector, every business needs finance staff and whilst the knowledge base is vast, it’s not quite as niche as medical recruitment. One of the biggest challenges has been learning all the lingo, but the team have been really supportive.
The staff at Sewell Wallis were one of the major reasons I decided to join. Everyone is welcoming, friendly and positive. You get the vibe that they’re down-to-earth people who just enjoy working hard and being successful when you first meet them, and it’s absolutely on the money. They’re all super helpful if I ever have a question (and I’ve had lots!), and their knowledge of the finance sector is unrivalled. I’m really beginning to feel confident and comfortable with the terminology, and being supported by Han, my manager, and Lew and Lawrie, my counterparts for South Yorkshire, has really helped that transition be smoother.
I’m enjoying that I’ve been given the independence to go away and learn things for myself, with the support of the team around me. I can work autonomously, without feeling like I’m being micromanaged. The whole team works autonomously, as individuals with their own styles and ways of managing their own desks. The office is a really vibrant place to be, and we all set our own schedules – we can work from where suits our plan for the day. Flexibility is a big part of life at Sewell Wallis; they really acknowledge that life happens outside of work as well as in it.
The team also do a ton of charity work, which has been really nice to see. Their charity partner of choice for the year is Brain Tumour Research, which is in support of one of the team who sadly lost her dad to a brain tumour last year. It’s really rewarding to get stuck in and help raise some money for such a fantastic cause.
Our clients seem engaged, and keen to recruit through Sewell Wallis – there are always new roles coming in and new conversations to be had.
Looking forward to the next few months, I’d really like to start making a dent in BD across my patch – I’m focussing on Nottingham and Derbyshire. It’s going to take a bunch of hard work, but I’m really excited about seeing what I can achieve in the next year! I’d really like to make a name for myself in the area, and I can’t wait to get stuck in.
The team at Sewell Wallis are always interested in hearing from recruiters and resourcers who are looking for a role in a modern recruitment business with a future-focused attitude. Our directors are always happy to have a chat – get in touch today!
