Lewis Walker: Finance Consultant

So, we asked a few of our team to tell the world about their experience working at Sewell Wallis.Lewis Walker is one of our Senior Consultants, covering Transactional Finance in Sheffield and South Yorkshire. He joined Sewell Wallis in 2019, has worked his way to Senior and has partnered with some of the biggest names in the Sheffield market. He talks us through his career to date, why he joined our business, and what he wants from the future.I started my career in 2014, with a sales job. I worked for a company that specialises in selling card machines. I can&rsquo;t say it was the most interesting job in the world, but it taught me a lot of the sales skills I&rsquo;ve needed to flourish in my recruitment career. I learned a lot about the kind of company I&rsquo;d like to work for too; they were a huge, global business and I sometimes felt like a tiny cog in a giant wheel. It lacked an amount of personality, and I struggled to really make my mark there. I wanted a new challenge which led me to look for a new role, and I, like so many other people, fell into the world of recruitment in 2016.I hadn&rsquo;t really planned on a career in recruitment, but it seemed like a good fit. It was a steep learning curve after the regimented style of selling I&rsquo;d learned in my first role, to be in a position where I could sell using my own strengths, set up my own day and really drive my own success, but I loved it. I started out in Engineering recruitment, and made the move to Finance recruitment in 2018.I was enjoying my job, but I wanted more. I wanted a role in a business that did things a little bit differently, and that felt like a change from that buttoned-up, corporate environment a lot of agencies seem to think enhances their performance &ndash; like expecting your staff in a full suit every day, and quietly eyeballing people who left the office on time. I interviewed at a number of companies in Sheffield, but on meeting the team at Sewell Wallis, I really felt like they were the people whose approach most closely aligned with what I was looking for. I already knew Hannah, and when I asked her for her honest opinion on the business, she had nothing but good things to say.My journey at Sewell Wallis has been absolutely fantastic. My team are super supportive, we celebrate our successes on a daily basis and I&rsquo;ve made some really good pals during my time here. We&rsquo;re a really diverse bunch of people, which I feel is pretty rare in this industry. I&rsquo;ve worked in teams before where I&rsquo;ve not felt like I fit in well, so to be working in a business where I feel at home in the office and have some solid working relationships with my colleagues is brill.I joined the team in November 2019 as a Senior Candidate Manager working alongside Kayley, our Director. I remember thoroughly enjoying the new environment and my first few months, and an excellent (if hazy!) Christmas party, but not long after that, in the February, the COVID-19 outbreak started.Being with the business during lockdown was difficult, same as it was for everyone. That extended period of time being isolated and on your own was a real strain on everyone&rsquo;s mental health. I was furloughed in March time, which felt really unsettling for me, mainly due to the uncertainty around how the recruitment sector would recover post-COVID, but my manager, Hannah, and the rest of the team were always there for a chat and to reassure us all we&rsquo;d get through the tough times together.Towards the back end of the COVID pandemic, I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, and was in hospital for about ten days. Kayley called me a number of times during this period to check in on how I was doing, and ask if there was anything the business could do to support me &ndash; this isn&rsquo;t them &lsquo;checking up&rsquo; on anyone, this is just how everyone in the business is. We care about each other. Sewell Wallis have been so supportive of my condition and have allowed me to work from home or take time when I&rsquo;m not feeling well, or had to attend hospital appointments.Coming back to work after furlough was another big shift; I was working on a part-time basis at first supporting Hannah with the transactional desk. I&rsquo;d never worked in this sector before, but I absolutely thrived. It was a faster pace than I was used to, and everything moved really quickly. I continued to prove myself and was promoted to Consultant, then to Senior Consultant in 2023.I think the constant flywheel of transactional-level recruitment is the things I love the most &ndash; I&rsquo;m never bored. I love hammering the phones to find that perfect candidate, and my colleages will tell you I never stop trying to find the perfect one. We all push each other to continually improve and support each other, there&rsquo;s no fighting over roles or candidates at Sewell Wallis. I also have to say that I love the reward recruitment brings; I&rsquo;ve been on numerous holidays, fleshed out my wardrobe a lot more, and recently bought my first house, and I wouldn&rsquo;t have managed any of these without the support of the Sewell Wallis team.

Celebrating 18 years of Sue Wallis: reinventing a business

​Sewell Wallis was borne out of the recognition that not all recruitment environments are created equal. Our MD Sue Wallis reinvented the business following a management buy-out, wanting to create a truly great place to work for everyone in the team, and ensure that all clients and candidates have the experience that they deserve. It&rsquo;s been 18 years since Sue joined the original business, Sewell Moorhouse, so today we&rsquo;re taking a trip down memory lane, looking at how the business got from where it started, to today, serving finance, HR, public sector and executive clients and candidates across Yorkshire.Turning dreams into a realitySue moved to Yorkshire from London 20 years ago, with over a decade&rsquo;s experience in recruitment already under her belt. She joined Sewell Moorhouse in 2006 as Regional Director, promoted to MD of the entire Sewell Moorhouse brand 8 years later. In 2017, along with two of her team, Kayley Haythornthwaite and Lucy Regan, Sue completed an MBO, splitting the Sewell Moorhouse brand from the rest of the business, and rebranding as Sewell Wallis.This move came from a desire to build a business that offered both excellent levels of service to those working with them and also provided a supportive, collaborative environment for the people working there. After 20 years in recruitment at that point, Sue had seen it all; clients and candidates alike, let down by unprofessional recruiters, messy processes, established clients lost to preventable mistakes, and numerous talented recruiters leaving the industry, quite often for the wrong reasons.Setting us apartSue set out to do something different with Sewell Wallis. She didn&rsquo;t want to just run a recruitment agency, she wanted to build a business with longevity. Working with a recruiter should be a partnership, an extension of your business; they should know your requirements in terms of staff and also have a deep understanding of your culture, not just be able to parrot a few keywords on a job spec. Candidates should be spoken to at length about their career aspirations, as well as to assess their suitability for a role, and they should arrive for interviews fully prepared. Your recruitment consultant should be a business partner, not just a CV machine, and this knowledge is what Sue used to underpin Sewell Wallis&rsquo; approach.Sue&rsquo;s experience also identified another pitfall: recruitment consultants can regularly get bogged down in admin processes. This is why Sewell Wallis has a dedicated admin team who keep everything ticking over in the background. It means that our team of directors can concentrate on running the wider business, whilst our admin team ensure everyone&rsquo;s on track, that we&rsquo;re compliant and that candidates and clients receive the information they need when they need it.Sue also made the conscious decision to approach training differently. Recruiters are expected to learn on the job, resulting in an average tenure of around 18 months or less for many people who join the industry. By offering formal training in recruitment competencies, leadership and management skills and EDI understanding, she&rsquo;s ensured her team are around for the long run.A person-centric approachAt Sewell Wallis, we treat everyone as individuals. We celebrate everyone&rsquo;s successes, big or small, and we&rsquo;re all excellent cheerleaders. We also make sure we&rsquo;re there for the good times and the bad. Sue had experienced so many recruiters leave the industry in the past due to being completely burnt out, and she wanted to flip the narrative. The old adage used to always be &lsquo;leave your home life at the door&rsquo;, but we spend hours of our week at work; Sue has intentionally crafted an environment in which people can be themselves at work, and where managers can help with the load if it becomes too heavy. Our leadership team are fully mental health first aid trained, and they foster a culture where people are open and approachable. This has resulted in a flat hierarchy and a team who put their hands up for support when they need it; nobody is left to drown.Sue and the management team actively encourage a good work-life balance. We work hard when we&rsquo;re working, and we all go home on time. We have regular socials outside of work that don&rsquo;t hinge on going to the pub, and we offer an excellent bonus scheme to reward everyone within the business for their hard work &ndash; the intention was never to just line the owner&rsquo;s pockets.Hard work pays dividendsThe work Sue put into trying to craft an inclusive and encouraging environment has definitely paid off. A lot of our team have been with us for a long time, and have been promoted from the role they originally started in. The intention was to build a consultancy that was the natural go-to for recruitment, and for the people that work with us to feel like we listen to them and what they need. She wanted to build a business where people were proud to work, and when you talk to our team, it&rsquo;s safe to say she&rsquo;s managed it.Looking to the futureThe plan going forward is to keep doing what we&rsquo;re doing, whilst continuing to improve areas of the business that can be. We&rsquo;ve hired two new consultants in the past three months, and brought our marketing in-house, allowing us to strengthen our brand in the Yorkshire market, and ensure all our communications are polished and professional. We&rsquo;re making strides to improve our internal processes, so we work smarter, not harder, and Sue&rsquo;s door is always open to new innovations from our consultants. Our candidates come back time and time again

We pride ourselves on our repeat business; we know our candidates and our clients well and they come back to us time and time again.This candidate first registered with us in April 2016, and in the May, Faith placed him into his first permanent finance role as a Purchase Ledger Clerk. He was a strong candidate with an excellent track record, and he stayed in this role for two years, until feeling like he wanted to move on. He wanted extra responsibility, to branch out from his purchase ledger experience and learn some new skills.After meeting with Hannah in May 2018, the candidate interviewed for an Accounts Assistant role. He smashed the interview, and was offered the role in June of that year; it increased his experience at a rapid pace and soon left him in a position where he was progressing his knowledge faster than the role required. He&rsquo;d also outgrown the salary level he was currently at.In March of 2020, he came back to Sewell Wallis with enough experience to be looking at part-qualified finance roles. He worked with Faith, weathering the COVID pandemic &ndash; there was a lot of uncertainty in the market at this point, but Faith ensured she kept in touch and ran relevant roles past him, and despite the difficulties the pandemic posed, she placed him into his third role with us in November 2020.He&rsquo;s been there ever since. He&rsquo;s recently come back to us to recruit for him, using Hannah exclusively from a client perspective. The relationship is open, personable and efficient, due to the level of knowledge we have of the candidate&rsquo;s background and our understanding of what he would value in a team member and in a business. Hannah Bateman: Business Manager

When you&rsquo;re looking for a new role in recruitment, it&rsquo;s important to find out how the people who work there currently feel about the company. So, we asked a few of our team to tell the world about their experience working at Sewell Wallis.Hannah Bateman is our Business Manager, managing the Transactional Finance team in Sheffield and recruiting into the Part-Qualified and Newly-Qualified market. She joined Sewell Wallis in 2017, has been promoted twice, and has worked with some of the biggest names in the Sheffield market. She talks about her journey from Consultant to Manager, and how the business have supported her through some of her toughest times.&nbsp;I was introduced to Sewell Wallis through my Dad, initially. He&rsquo;d worked as an accountant his entire life, and he&rsquo;d worked with Kayley numerous times before as both a candidate and a client. My sister was registered with Sewell Wallis because she wanted to become an accountant, and my Mum was a client of the agency. I was the final puzzle piece!Fast forward two years from that point, I was working in another agency role, and I received an email about an opportunity from Kayley. It went something along the lines of &lsquo;I think you and your family know a little bit about us already&rsquo;, and the rest was history. My Dad was a huge driving force in me joining Sewell Wallis; his first hand experience with Kayley and her brilliance, and the organization as a whole meant he had no doubt in his mind that this would be a good career step for me to take.I joined in 2017 as a Consultant, specializing in Transactional Finance recruitment. In my first two weeks, I can remember Kayley training me on all things finance. She&rsquo;s the most humble person I know, but she&rsquo;s a fountain of knowledge and an expert in her field &ndash; there&rsquo;s nothing finance she doesn&rsquo;t have some understanding of.Two years in, I hit my first set of objectives and achieved my first promotion and my title changed to &lsquo;Senior Consultant&rsquo;. This wasn&rsquo;t an immediate, drastic change in responsibility, but was more about shifting my mindset towards development, coaching new employees and continually improving my market knowledge. There were so many new challenges, but I grew a lot and I learned so much about the business, my role and the way I work the best. I started believing that I had the knowledge and ability to trust my instincts, something Kayley and Sue had encouraged me to do from day dot.In 2022, post pandemic and in a recovering economy, I was promoted to &lsquo;Transactional Finance Lead&rsquo;. This role was a pivotal change for me. I wasn&rsquo;t mentally ready to have a real, proper management title. I&rsquo;d always felt a slight bit of imposter syndrome (I still do at times) when it comes to management, but after a little while, and a ton of encouragement, it started to feel right. It was an opportunity for me to adapt and transition to a managerial position, without the immediate pressure of traditional management and it was really important to me. I also completed an external management course to bolster my confidence, give me tools to succeed and mechanisms to handle potential situations that I hadn&rsquo;t addressed before. Kayley and Sue built this role around me, in my opinion, to give me time to prove to myself that I could do it. They consistently encouraged me, gave me confidence, handled any reservations I had surrounding &lsquo;managing&rsquo; a team and set me achievable objectives the entirety of the time which I was consistently hitting which allowed me to see that I could do it. Every single member of my team has been a blessing ever since; they are knowledgeable, dedicated, driven and determined and I love working alongside them.In October 2022, I was promoted to &lsquo;Business Manager&rsquo;; I had an official management title. I now manage 3 amazing consultants who cover Transactional Finance in South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire. They are the best in the business in my opinion, evidenced by their continuous success, repeat relationships and their independence.My attitude to management is that it should be about encouragement, positivity and instilling confidence in my team&rsquo;s own abilities; a management technique that I&rsquo;ve learnt by example through working alongside Kayley and Sue. They&rsquo;ve always believed in me, always told me that I could do it &ndash; whatever it was that they had set me to work towards. That&rsquo;s exactly the attitude I have with my team.Within this role, I also transitioned to recruit for a new desk. I now specialise in Part Qualified and Newly Qualified positions across South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire, and I absolutely love it. I really enjoy being a manager, but finance recruitment will always have my heart. Due to the amount of time I&rsquo;ve been working within transactional recruitment, a lot of the candidates that I&rsquo;m now working with have been with me since the beginning. I&rsquo;ve watched them grow their experience, develop themselves, study hard and now I get to work with them all over again in their next move; a move that I consider to be the most important in their career. Kayley has yet again, dedicated her time to provide me with additional knowledge about the more in depth, technical side of accounting, again proving her immense expertise in the South Yorkshire finance market.I also encountered a huge personal challenge in 2022; in the December, just after the Christmas break, I had to sit down with Kayley and let her know that they had found a tumor in my dad&rsquo;s head and he was very unwell. The person I spoke to in that moment in was my friend first, then my boss. She showed absolute compassion, genuine emotion and care for me and I will always be forever grateful for what happened next. I was given complete flexibility by everyone in the business, and supported by all three directors whilst my dad&rsquo;s care was ongoing, enabling me to help at home when needed and not have to put on a brave face when really, I didn&rsquo;t feel that brave.Every conversation I had, with Kayley, Lucy and Sue, first and foremost was about my wellbeing at the time, how I was doing and how they could help. Following my dad&rsquo;s passing in May 2023, both directors, Sue and Kayley took time out of their business day to attend the funeral alongside me, and they all supported me, no questions asked, in choosing Brain Tumour Research as our charity of choice for the year of 2024 &ndash; Kayley and Sue have even volunteered to do a skydive in memory of my Dad!The company is run by three incredible directors. They have successfully created a culture that businesses strive for and I feel really lucky to be a part of it. I hope to impact my team in the same way that they have impacted me over my 7 years.

Client Case Study: Long-lasting relationships

Sue&rsquo;s been in this game a long time, and her focus is on providing candidates and clients with a reliable partner in their recruitment journeys. She talks through one of her success stories.I started working with Mark 5 years ago when he approached me as a candidate looking for a new role. We arranged to meet for a coffee &ndash; phone calls are all well and good (I&rsquo;m never off mine, ask any of my colleagues), but nothing compares to meeting you in person. It gives you a real feel for the person and means they&rsquo;re usually a little more at ease. We met, talked through his qualifications and experience and discussed at length the reasons for his search and, most importantly, what were the key things he wanted from his next move.Mark was already engaged with a couple of other recruiters, and shortly after we&rsquo;d met, he was placed into a new role through another agency. We stayed in touch, and a few months later he approached me to meet with him and his Finance Director, with a view to Sewell Wallis assisting with their recruitment; they were hiring within their HR and their finance team. Unfortunately, the business he&rsquo;d joined was one we&rsquo;d chosen not to work with previously; this was due to their reputation in market and their staff turnover. We did meet with them to ascertain if this had changed, but by the time we met, it was pretty apparent that they were both actually looking to discuss potential opportunities. Our instincts about the business had been right and both mark and his FD were keen to move on.Mark joined another business through a personal contact of his, and he blossomed in his new role. We kept the lines of communication open, and Sewell Wallis assisted him with salary benchmarking for the finance, marketing and HR team. We also came on board when, due to a company reshuffle, the business was unfortunately making redundancies &ndash; we helped a number of the leavers look for new roles.At the end of 2023 Mark unfortunately found out that he was also in line for redundancy and again, we met for a coffee to discuss his options. My network of HR professionals and contacts in the region is vast, and I therefore committed to proactively approaching the market on his behalf. Together we once again revisited the &lsquo;must haves&rsquo; in his next role, and I approached contacts who I felt would be a great match for Mark. This is where the Sewell Wallis approach really sings &ndash; our networks are so wide-reaching that we can make the right introductions to the right people.I was delighted that in the space of a couple of a weeks, we had secured interviews for Mark at a brilliant Leeds based business who, following several acquisitions, were looking for a Group Head of HR. Mark went through a tough but clear selection process and secured a new role starting in January 2024.Further proof of the benefit of long-standing relationships came when two months in to his new role, he once again approached me to partner with him on the recruitment of 3 new team members within HR. Knowing Mark so well made such a huge difference; I knew exactly who would work well with him but also had the reassurance that he was a great person to work with, a good manager and would offer career development and long term prospects to the new team members.I am delighted to say that we have now secured all three team members and they are all over the moon with their new roles. We really do want to ensure the people we work with stick around for the long term, and I hope testimonials like this one speak to our method.

Sue is the &lsquo;Wallis&rsquo; behind Sewell Wallis, and is the owner and MD of this fabulous business. Joining the recruitment world over 30 years ago in London, she moved to Yorkshire and joined Sewell Moorhouse in 2006 as regional director, promoted to MD of that entire brand 8 years later. In 2017, along with two of her team, Kayley Haythornthwaite and Lucy Regan, Sue completed an MBO, splitting the Sewell Moorhouse brand from the rest of the business and rebranding as Sewell Wallis.When she&rsquo;s not at work, on the phone, driving to a meeting, coaching one of her staff or having a lie down in a dark room to recover from all of these things, you&rsquo;ll find her with her husband John, and her beautiful Ridgeback Bronn on a long country walk with a cheeky pub lunch in the middle. She&rsquo;s a Londoner at heart, but has never regretted her move to this beautiful part of the world.What&rsquo;s your Sewell Wallis speciality? As well as being Director of our Sheffield office, Kayley also oversees all senior finance and exec level recruitment for South Yorkshire, North Derbyshire and North Nottinghamshire, occasionally lending her hand to specialist exec roles that fall outside of her typical finance remit. Having originally studied Architecture at Newcastle Uni, and then ultimately deciding she didn&rsquo;t want to be an architect, Kayley fell into an internal recruitment role, then took a graduate trainee consultant position, which started her journey to where she is now!She&rsquo;s been recruiting into the finance market across the region for over 15 years, with nearly a decade of that at senior level, so has an unrivalled network and knows pretty much everyone!Outside of work, Kayley spends most of her time with her young children and her family, and when she gets a bit of down time, you&rsquo;ll find her out for dinner with her friends. She&rsquo;s recently taken up running too!What&rsquo;s your Sewell Wallis speciality?I&rsquo;m part owner and Director of our Sheffield office, and I also oversee the senior finance team in Sheffield and recruit at senior finance and exec level across industry, practice and not-for-profit, so as you can imagine, I&rsquo;m always busy!What&rsquo;s your favourite thing about your job?I get to work with some of the most talented recruiters in the region &ndash; they&rsquo;re an absolute dream to manage and they smash it every single day. The variety of what I get to do is so varied, and it means no day is the same as the last.

Kayley Haythornthwaite

Lucy joined Sewell Wallis in 2013 and has over 10 years&rsquo; experience specialising within Accountancy &amp; Finance recruitment. Now as a Director of the business, she demonstrates her passion, drive and love for recruitment through the strong relationships she continues to build across Yorkshire.She now manages the Leeds office which is now a team full of lively, dedicated and high achieving consultants. Lucy focuses on the senior finance market and thoroughly enjoys engaging with business leaders, many being candidates that she has previously supported across multiple sectors within blue chip and SME organisations. &nbsp;Out of work Lucy has her hands full with her daughters Amelie and Sienna, not forgetting her Golden doodle Maisie! She is a regular Glastonbury goer and loves spending time with her friends at the weekend, especially when it involves a large New Zealand Sauvignon!

Associate Director | Part Qualified Finance

Chloe is our Associate Director in the Leeds office and specialises in part-qualified recruitment in West &amp; North Yorkshire, on a temporary and permanent basis. She also manages the Leeds Transactional Finance team &ndash; they definitely keep her on her toes!Chloe has worked in recruitment for 8 years, always specialising in finance, and before that she worked in a busy finance team in the automotive sector. She was headhunted into the recruitment industry by a competitor, and the rest was history!The quick turnaround, tight deadlines and pressure are what Chloe loves about her role; she managed a busy interim transactional and part-qualified desk throughout her career and took on a managerial role with us in 2021.When she&rsquo;s not at work, you&rsquo;ll most likely find Chloe busy renovating her house that she shares with her partner, Richard, and her crazy 7 toe&rsquo;d cat, Puss. When she&rsquo;s not chained to her renovation project, she loves to have a few glasses of wine with her friends in Leeds, and enjoys a steady swim sesh at the gym, but she&rsquo;s at her happiest when she&rsquo;s with her niece and nephews!What&rsquo;s your Sewell Wallis speciality? Permanent and interim part-qualified finance roles across North and West Yorkshire.What&rsquo;s your favourite thing about your job? This is a hard one as I love my job, I&rsquo;m a bit of a saddo really. I love dealing with people so I&rsquo;m definitely in the right job!I have to say that there is no better feeling than watching my team absolutely smash it! They work their socks off and they genuinely care, and when their hard work pays off I get the biggest sense of pride. I feel lucky to be able to work with each of them every day.&nbsp;What makes you laugh the most?Other people laughing always makes me laugh! Also, any stupid noise is guaranteed to get a howl out of me. I&rsquo;m clearly just a big kid!

Chloe Wilford

Since joining in 2008, Claire has thrived in her career with us. Originally an Administrator, assisting the consultants with their administrative needs, a stickler for attention to detail and ensuring high standards were always met, Claire progressed to the role of Admin Manager.&nbsp; Now she manages our brilliant admin team, implements changes to ensure our processes are always efficient and up to date and helps with organising company gatherings and events.Outside of work, Claire is a mum of 2 and loves spending time as a family but will always find the time to catch up and socialise with friends.&nbsp; She is a TV soap lover, so once the kids are in bed, she loves to settle down on the sofa with a cuppa, a biscuit and an episode of Emmerdale, even though there is a pile of ironing that needs doing.&nbsp;&nbsp;What&rsquo;s your Sewell Wallis speciality?I deal with anything and everything admin related, managing the admin team and organising everyone&rsquo;s lives.What&rsquo;s your favourite thing about your job?The variety of things I get to do, being part of an amazing team and organising things to make life easier for others.What are you most thankful for?My 2 beautiful children.&nbsp; All I ever wanted was to be a mum, our journey to parenthood wasn&rsquo;t an easy one, so I am truly thankful every day for them.&nbsp;

Faith is our Manager for Senior and Qualified Finance, filling senior appointments across South Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.&nbsp;She finds top finance professionals, matching them to their dream job. Hannah is our Business Manager based in the Sheffield office, managing the Transactional Finance team alongside recruiting on a desk of her own.She started her recruitment career in call centre recruitment but coming from a whole family of Accountants, when presented with the opportunity to work within a role relating to Finance, it felt like a great opportunity to be able to join the dinner table conversation every once in a while!Her idea of a perfect day consists of a long dog walk in the sunshine with her partner and their dog Albie, finished off by a hearty pub lunch, then home for a horror film with a family sized tub of ice cream!What is your specialism?I specialise in recruiting for part and newly qualified finance professionals across South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire.What&rsquo;s your favourite thing about your job? I love my job &ndash; I get to manage a brilliant team where it&rsquo;s a genuine privilege to support and witness their growth and development.I love my specialism because this point in a candidates career is so pivotal. It means that I get to speak with people consistently who show enthusiasm, dedication, drive and commitment!&nbsp;What makes you laugh the most? Unfortunately my mum, my sister and myself all have the same weakness here. He started his recruitment career in the medical sector, but having always been firmly business and finance-minded felt the transition into a role more aligned with this would suit perfectly, which it has!In his spare time, Lawrie regularly attends gigs and festivals both at home and abroad and loves to travel and tries to get away whenever he can. Closer to home, he enjoys playing football and watching his beloved Sheffield Wednesday.What is your specialism?I specialise in recruiting for both transactional and part-qualified finance professionals across South Yorkshire.What&rsquo;s your favourite thing about your job? &nbsp;Building great relationships with both candidates and clients is the best part about the job, understanding their unique requirements and being able to work closely with them to achieve this is really rewarding. I&rsquo;m also lucky to work as part of a supportive collaborative team, which makes the job that much more enjoyable.Where is the best place you have ever been?I&rsquo;m having two for this one, one has to be The Maldives for obvious reasons!&nbsp; My second is a place called Hilton Head Island in the US, great beaches, great seafood and a really laid back vibe, I&rsquo;ll never tire of visiting there!

Lawrie Bacon

Lewis started his career in 2014, selling card machines for a leading provider, before quickly making the step into recruitment in 2016. Similar to many people who find themselves in the industry, it was kind of an accident!He joined Sewell Wallis in 2019 as a candidate manager for the senior desk, but quickly moved into a consultant role the following year. 2023 saw him being promoted to Senior Consultant, working the Transactional Finance desk and recruiting across temporary and permanent roles.Outside of work Lewis has a keen interest in fashion, and music, he loves attending gigs and festivals. He loves a night in the pub with his mates, and being a dog Dad to his girlfriend&rsquo;s dog, Fig.What&rsquo;s your Sewell Wallis speciality?I deal with transactional level finance up to &pound;35k in the South Yorkshire region.What&rsquo;s your favourite thing about your job? I love the fast-paced nature of the role; I love constantly being busy and really hammering the phone until I know I have got an amazing shortlist. I really like that I am constantly being pushed to do better by my peers. I get on really well with everyone who works here and I massively appreciate the support I'm given on a day to day basis.If you could visit anywhere in the world where you go?Tokyo &ndash; I want to eat the best sushi in the world and experience the Sakura trees in full bloom!

Lewis Walker

Recruitment Consultant Specialising in Accountancy & Finance

Liv originally studied Sports Teaching at university, and then fell into property for a few years after that. She&rsquo;s been in recruitment since 2022, starting off resourcing for an education recruiter. She joined Sewell Wallis a year later as a consultant, due to wanting a role where she could progress and develop her skillset. Liv&rsquo;s found her niche working with senior finance professionals, and she thoroughly enjoys building long term relationships with her candidates to find them their dream roles.When she&rsquo;s not working, she loves to wind down at the gym, followed by a long stretch in the sauna afterwards. Inci moved into the recruitment industry in 2018, joining Sewell Wallis in early 2024. After a long stint in medical recruitment, she was keen to explore a new sector and make a name for herself.As a specialised consultant for Transactional Finance and Part Qualified roles across South Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, Inci works with candidates up to the &pound;35k mark to find them their next step. After my recent trip to Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia I really want to tick off Vietnam, Cambodia and the Philippines, breathtaking landscapes, gorgeous beaches, and absolutely delicious food &ndash; cannot get enough!

Emma has been in recruitment for over 20 years, the majority of that spent with Sewell Wallis. She is now Manager of Qualified Finance in our Leeds office. Her clients range from SMEs to international PLCs as well as working with Accountancy Firms across the region. Emma&rsquo;s network is extensive and spans across the whole of Yorkshire - she knows nearly everyone!Emma is a mum of triplets, so has an incredibly busy life outside of work running round after her 9 year old boys! Recruitment can be a tough but rewarding job and I love the fact that I&rsquo;m helping someone develop their future career, as well as building long-lasting relationships with clients and candidates.What&rsquo;s your superpower? Multi-tasking! With 9-year-old triplets,&nbsp; alongside work, I&rsquo;m constantly juggling school runs, after school activities and standing on the side of football pitches! I&rsquo;m also currently trying to fit in training for a 10K run.

Betsy is one of our Recruitment Consultants and she manages the Permanent Transactional Finance Desk.Although her career path hasn&rsquo;t been a perfectly straight line into recruitment, she is very happy to be where she is! Having studied Drama at University and been a primary school teacher previously, Betsy has developed a passion for people and relationship building that makes her someone who will go above and beyond for her candidates and clients. &nbsp;Outside of work, Betsy spends as much time as she can with her friends and family and travels all over the place to see them! You can often find her at a festival, scouting out the best veggie restaurant or going to the theatre. Betsy Smith

Becky is originally from Hartlepool but moved to West Yorkshire 7 years ago after graduating University in Newcastle. Becky has been with Sewell Wallis since 2017 and originally started out as an Administrator but due to her increasing interest in the recruitment side she became a Resourcer working with the Transactional Finance team. She moved into a Consultant role in April 2023 and now manages both the client and candidate side of the process.Becky lives with her boyfriend and their crazy cats Lumi and Bambi, and outside of work she enjoys socialising with friends, going to the gym, travelling and going to gigs.What&rsquo;s your Sewell Wallis speciality? Working alongside Betsy, I manage the permanent transactional finance desk, working closely with my network to fill permanent roles.What&rsquo;s your favourite thing about your job?The interaction with the candidates and helping people to find their dream role &ndash; I love those happy phonecalls where I get to tell people they&rsquo;ve got a job offer!What is your biggest fear?My biggest fears are sharks, open water and spiders! The other question I answered was &lsquo;if you could live anywhere where would it be?&rsquo;, and my answer would be Australia, but clearly I&rsquo;d just be frightened all the time!

Becky Gibson

Suli joined the team in 2022, initially as a resourcer for the finance team, giving him a brilliant insight into the market, and a deep understanding of candidate needs. In November 2023, he was promoted to a consultant role, and now specialises in interim and contract transactional finance roles, with a focus on North and West Yorkshire.All about connecting with people, Suli thrives on building long lasting relationships, with both his clients and his candidates. His prime goal is to ensure everyone finds their perfect fit.When he&rsquo;s not filling temp roles across the region, you&rsquo;ll often find him cheering on his fave football team, Liverpool, hitting the gym or hanging out with his friends and family.What&rsquo;s your Sewell Wallis speciality? I deal with any role within transactional finance which is interim or temporary.What&rsquo;s your favourite thing about your job? I get to go to work every day with a team that&rsquo;s amazing to work with and incredibly supportive &ndash; we&rsquo;re all each other&rsquo;s biggest cheerleaders.If you could eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?Has to be a Margherita Pizza, very basic choice but you can&rsquo;t beat it! I think it&rsquo;s a test of a good pizzeria if they can get the basics right!&nbsp;
